“First the mind must be healed.  Second, the body must be made sound.  If the mind is healthy, conforming to a path of integrity, then the body becomes sturdy of its own accord.”

~ Mikao Usui (1865-1926), Discoverer of Reiki

Reiki (ray-key) is a natural healing energetic technique.  Similar techniques have been used by people across the world as the first step in addressing health concerns. Even though it has only recently become popular in the West, Reiki has been practiced in various forms for hundreds, probably thousands of years.

Reiki is simple to learn but can have profound effects on the body. It is one of the many things that helps the body to heal. Western medicine has yet to accept Reiki as a valid healing technique, but that is mainly because we don’t understand it

Reiki is given by the laying on of hands. A standard treatment includes placing the hands in positions around the head, shoulders, stomach, and feet. In addition, the practitioner may use other positions for specific concerns the client may have. Each position is held for between five and ten minutes and the entire treatment lasts right around an hour.

A treatment is deeply relaxing and benefits both the client and the practitioner.  Reiki is not as focused on specific issues as is often the case with both Chiropractic and Massage.  Rather, it is a full body approach helping to energize and balance the receiver.

Reiki Symbology

Reiki San Francisco

Cho Ku Rei is a power symbol used to increase power and decrease power when used in reverse. The symbol is used for manifestation. Since times unknown the farmers in the Indian agrarian society have used this symbol while planting their fields.

Sei Hei Ki is a symbol of purification and emotional balance. The general meaning of sei he ki is “God and man become one,” and the drawing of the symbol for sei he ki resembles either a wave cresting and getting ready to crash over a beach or a bird’s wing. It can also aid in balancing the right and left sides of the brain and is often though of as a symbol of protection.

Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen or the “Pagoda” symbol is used when sending long distance Reiki healing.  It can  transform itself into a key that will unlock the Akashic Records.  This symbol is used for working on the inner child or past live issues.

Raku, also known as the “fire serpent” is used primarily for grounding after Reiki. Drawn from head to ground, the purpose of raku is to allow the body to receive the benefits of Reiki—much like how savasana is used at the end of yoga to help the body absorb all the benefits of the practice.

This symbol is a nourishing and enlightening one, and it is the most sacred Reiki symbol. It also has the highest vibration and the most transformative power of the Reiki symbols.  Dai ko myo is the empowerment symbol, and means “great enlightenment” or “bright shining light.”
